I. History

In July 26, 1971, 39 representative members from advertising agencies, advertisers, media, and universities founded Korea Advertising Research Association (KARA), the first Korean Advertising Association.Most of KARA¡¯s activities were attached with the word ¡®first¡¯.KARA set the first Korean advertisement ethical code (1972), the first Korean Advertising day (1973), the first Korean advertising exhibition (1986), and the first National Advertising congress (1987).In 1990, changed its name as the Korea Federation of Advertising Associations (KFAA), KFAA has been considered the nation-wide advertising federation, representing various advertising associations in Korea.Its membership comprises 12 related advertising associations, including ABC Korea branch, and IAA Korea.

KFAA has been and will be a faithful partner of Korean Advertising Industry and academic society.To build better environment of Korean Advertising industry and higher ethical standard, KFAA provides various programs as follows:


II. Activities

For the interests of Korean advertising industries,

1) Conduct public service activities related to Advertising to enhance the ethical standard and public cause.

2) Conduct research project and submit recommendations to the appropriate government agencies for the development of the Advertising industry.

3) Organize and manage fund raising activities for promotion of the Advertising industry.

4) Develop programs of research, training, publication and dissemination of information to the public related to the business of Advertising.


III. Specific Programs by KFAA

1) National Advertising Congress

This congress is the most prestigious advertising event in Korea. It was held each year sponsored by KFAA and supported by membership companies of KFAA.Last year, under the theme of ¡°Korean advertising and new millennium¡± about 1,200 advertisers, journalists and others engaged in the advertising fields participated in this event.Its goal is developing cooperation between both domestic and international industry organization.

2) Korea Advertising Award

KFAA develop and manage Advertising award program to recognize outstanding creativity in Advertising and outstanding professional contribution with the goal of supporting and protecting the rights of all advertising people while improving the quality of Advertising standard in general.

3) Seoul International Advertising Seminar

Advisor group members from advertisers, advertising agencies and universities determine the theme of this seminar. This seminar encourages to introduce latest advertising theories to Advertising industries and to consider their application to the field. In 2000, more than 500 advertisers and marketing specialists across the nation attended the seminar.

4) Campaign for Advertising day

In 1973 Korean Advertising day (November 11) was proposed by KFAA to improve awareness and stress the importance of the Advertising industry organization. In this day, incorporated with media and advertising agencies, special free advertisements were covered through whole media including TV, newspaper, magazine, radio, cable TV, etc. These advertisements stress advertising's social beneficiaries and social responsibilities.

5) Advertising Information Center (ADIC)

KFAA established Advertising Information Center in Seoul, and continuously collects and builds up digitalized database of whole Korean advertising information including TV and printed advertisements. The center will be a major infrastructure of On-Line advertising information in Korea.

6) Korean Netizen Profile Survey (KNP)

To cope with recent Internet environment, KFAA has executed Korean Netizen Profile (KNP) survey twice a year.In collaboration with industries, academic societies and research institutes, this survey is considered one of the most reliable and comprehensive on-line researches in Korea.
