AFAA is governed by a General Body who is supreme to all matters relating to the Federation. In between the meetings of the General Body, the International Council implements the decisions of the General Body. The International Council is composed of a Chairman, two Vice-Chairmen and six or more Council members. The Council has set up committees to deal with specific tasks. These committees work on topics such as :

- International Advertising Association
- Public Service Advertising
- The Federation is affiliated to the International Advertising Associations
